Bilal and Sergi

"I want to be an instructor for children, and also teach them to have fun''

Bilal was born in Spain. His family is of Arabic origin and he lives with them in Barceloneta. He is 17 years old and is one of the few young people in the project who completed their ESO studies and, in addition, studied a medium-level qualification (diploma) last year. He receives help from the Joan Salvador Gavina Foundation, and it was through them that he chose the sailing program within INSERsport. At first, he chose sailing because it was the only option that still had spots available, but he has now developed a strong passion for the sport.

Sergi

"The instructors have completed this course themselves, and I wish to be like them''

Sergi is from Russia, but was adopted when he was 2 years old. Now he is 16 years old and lives with his mother. He will not complete his ESO studies and will go to a boarding school. He was recommended for this project by social services. He chose sailing because he has always liked the sea. He had never sailed or imagined that he would ride on a boat, let alone teach children and adults.

There is a lot left to do,
but here they are

Ferran Martínez, the Mataró Sailing School Coordinator, talks to us about Sergi and Bilal’s progress in the INSERsport program.
